What AADL covers

How the benefit works

AADL shares the cost of hearing aids so the right device stays within reach.

  • A benefit toward hearing aids.

AADL provides funding toward hearing aids for Albertans with a documented hearing loss. Your audiologist matches the benefit to a device that suits your hearing and lifestyle.

  • Authorized by an audiologist.

AADL benefits must be authorized by a registered audiologist who is an approved AADL authorizer. Our clinicians assess your hearing and complete the authorization for you.

  • Repairs and replacements.

Beyond the initial fitting, AADL can help with hearing aid repairs and replacements at set intervals. We track your eligibility dates so you do not miss a renewal.

Eligibility

Who AADL is for

Eligibility is straightforward for most Albertans. You generally qualify when:

  • You are a resident of Alberta with a valid Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan number.
  • You have a hearing loss assessed and documented by a registered audiologist.
  • Your hearing aids are authorized through an approved AADL authorizer, such as our clinicians.
  • You meet the program frequency limits for a new device, repair, or replacement.

The process

We handle the paperwork

Four simple steps from first call to better hearing.

  1. 1

    Book a diagnostic hearing test.

Every AADL authorization starts with a complete hearing assessment. The results confirm the type and degree of your hearing loss and whether you qualify for the benefit.

  2. 2

    We complete your AADL authorization.

As an AADL authorizing clinic, we handle the paperwork. Your audiologist documents your hearing loss and submits the authorization so the benefit can be applied to your devices.

  3. 3

Choose and fit your hearing aids.

We help you select hearing aids that fit within your AADL benefit and your goals, then fit and program them to your prescription for the best possible result.

  4. 4

    Ongoing care and renewals.

We stay with you after the fitting with adjustments, repairs, and follow-up. When you become eligible for a renewal, we are ready to authorize it again.

Frequently asked questions

  • AADL stands for Alberta Aids to Daily Living. It is a Government of Alberta program that helps eligible Albertans with a long-term disability, chronic illness, or terminal illness pay for medical equipment and supplies, including hearing aids.

  • AADL provides a set benefit toward the cost of hearing aids rather than the full retail price. If you choose a device that costs more than the benefit, you pay the difference. Your audiologist will explain exactly what your benefit covers before you decide on a device.

  • Most AADL clients pay a portion of the approved benefit cost, with an annual maximum per family. Albertans receiving income support, AISH, or who qualify for a low-income exemption may not have to pay this portion. We will confirm your share before any device is ordered.

  • You do not apply on your own. The process begins with a diagnostic hearing test at an authorizing clinic. If you have a documented hearing loss, our registered audiologists complete and submit the AADL authorization on your behalf.

  • AADL sets frequency limits for new hearing aids, repairs, and replacements. The interval depends on your age and circumstances. We track your eligibility dates and let you know when you qualify for a renewal.
